- What is
a Chiropodist/Podiatrist?
- A Chiropodist/Podiatrist is someone who is trained
in the treatment of minor foot disorders.
He/She will be qualified and registered with The Health Professions
Council. He/She will be covered by Professional Indemnity Insurance,
and will adhere to a strict code of ethics.
I cut toenails, I remove ingrowing toenails, treat
verrucae (warts of the foot), fungal infections, remove corns and callouses, provide
padding, strapping and arch supports where needed etc...
I also give general footcare advice.
I treat people of all ages including Diabetics.
Why won't I treat you for free?
That is because I do not work for the National Health
Service. I work privately. However, I do see an increasing number of
patients who can claim for their treatment on their private health insurance
policies. So read your policies and check!
The Hospital Savings
Association provide for extensive Chiropody cover, as do others.
When can I see a Chiropodist?
You can see a Chiropodist privately whenever you want, just give
him/her a telephone call.
You do not need to be referred by your doctor to be seen privately.
How can I choose a Chiropodist?
Personally I think the best way to choose one is
by personal recommendation. Who do your friends / colleagues see? Are
they happy?
Legally the titles Chiropodist/Podiatrist are protected
under UK law. If someone calls themselves a Chiropodist or Podiatrist
they must be registered with the Health Professions Council.
